Treacle Sponge

Without doubt my favourite traditional British pudding (pudding is another word for dessert in the UK)...the humble treacle sponge. I confess this was my first time making one - it was SO EASY and SO DELICIOUS I can't believe I haven't done it sooner.
Here's a link to the recipe that I used - note that it only took 3.5 hours in my slow cooker so keep an eye!
I've heard that a lot of Americans do bake in grams because it's way more accurate (necessary for baking) but in case you want to use cups 175g = 3/4 cup. I also know it can be tricky to get Golden Syrup here, if you don't have a local British store it is on Amazon. I've been told that light treacle or light corn syrup can be a sub but not as tasty. I wonder what molasses would taste like...
If you prefer to cook along to a video, here I am making this one! Of course I serve it with hot custard, again if you have no British store it is on Amazon, but vanilla ice cream would be second best.
Let me know if you try it!
See ya soon x
